 Why attend this course?

Trainees from the Green Consultancy

Ian Hargreaves and Rebecca Lemen-Hogarth from the Green Consultancy attended the training in 2011

When energy-saving projects are carried out, it is important to check how effective they have been.

This is evidently true where there are contractual consequences, but it can be equally true where there are not. Rigorous evaluation increases trust, and enables you to discriminate between ineffective projects and those which deserve to be replicated. It can identify projects which have failed because of some minor issue which can be readily resolved. And a proposal for a project becomes much more credible, and is far likelier to attract funding, if it is known that its results will be exposed to thorough scrutiny.

The International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP) is the de facto standard for the conduct of such evaluations. It is published by the Efficiency Valuation Organisation and is designed to promote transparency, completeness, objectivity, and conservativeness. AEE and EVO award the CMVP®  (Certified Measurement and Verification Professional) qualification to those who attend this training course, subsequently pass the examination, and remain active in the field of measurement and verification.

This workshop includes both the approved 'Fundamentals of Measurement and Verification' training and the CMVP® examination.

The course will be presented in English by Ian Boylan, M.Eng.Sc  CEM CEA  CMVP. Ian is a chartered engineer and is Energy Services Manager for Eirdata in Ireland.

Important note: each candidate for CMVP certification must pass the four-hour written exam as well as meet one of the following criteria (or equivalent outside America):

  • Have a four-year degree from an accredited university or college in science, engineering, architecture, business, law, finance, or related field, or be a registered professional engineer (P.E.), or registered architect (R.A.). In addition, the applicant must have at least three years experience in energy or building or facility management or measurement and verification; OR,
  • Have a two-year technical degree, or four-year non-technical degree from an accredited college or university in a field not specified above with five years experience in energy or building or facility management or measurement and verification; OR,
  • Have ten years or more verified experience in energy or building or facility management or measurement and verification; OR
  • the current status of Certified Energy Manager (CEM®) given by AEE

Applications are assessed by a local CMVP Board who will consider each trainee's qualifications for equivalence to the American specification. A trainee who passes the exam but is deemed not to meet the above criteria receives the title CMVP-IT (In Training) until able to prove that he or she has covered the criteria to become a CMVP.
